Computing and Online Safety

Cross curricular learning, developing the digital literacy of our students and learning how to be a responsible “digizen” online is paramount to our computing curriculum, where teachers plan highly focused and engaging activities to hone the children’s skills and knowledge.  Across the key stages, there is a great emphasis on learning skills for computing; this includes programming, debugging and exchanging information.  Our children are taught how to access information, evaluate its suitability, store it, share it with others and tailor it to meet their own needs.  Learning how to use ICT safely is at the heart of lessons where regular e-safety sessions on topics such as cyber bullying, online privacy or keeping information safe are targeted through our computing topics and via regular class council sessions.

From drones to Micro:bits, Lego We Do 2.0 robots to state-of-the-art sound/lighting mixing desks for productions – Liscard have heavily invested in an outstanding infrastructure to lead our children into the ever-changing world of technology.  With a high ratio of pupils:iPads/laptops and a strong and stable WiFi to cover our premises, teaching staff are able to incorporate ICT into any lesson they require - including the use of iPad mirroring to interactive boards, which provides children with immediate feedback and a vehicle to showcase projects during lessons.  Ultimately, our aim is to inspire the next generation of computer programmers, engineers and designers into a telecoms, robotics or electronics career path.

At Liscard, we are extremely proud of the engagement and achievements of our pupils in this subject and our staff strive to showcase the learning in their classrooms via our online computing portfolio.
